Güvercinada (Pigeon Island)A checkpoint against attack during the Ottoman Empire and then a pirate safeguard. The castle was fully restored in 1834 and now serves as a tourist centre, illuminated at night.
Caravanşerai of Öküz Mehmet PasaA fortress by the marina, built for sea trade in 1618, the same year as the town’s Kaleiçi Mosque which can be seen close to the Grand Bazaar.
The Yacht MarinaWith moorings for more than 600 yachts and sophisticated bars, fish restaurants and shops selling designer labels.
Bar StIs what it says, a place where you can drink till dawn, though prices are higher than in other establishments around town. Loud and late.
ShoppingOpportunities radiate in all directions, along the old town streets, from the Grand Bazaar which has around 1,000 stalls, selling jewellery, gold, ceramics, electronic goods, watches, carpets etc. You can even get jeans and shirts made to measure. There are shopping centres in and outside of Kusadasi. Visit Söke Shopping Outlets for international and Turkish brand clothes and Scala Nuova for upmarket labels.
MarketsHappen on Tuesdays (fruit and vegetables), Wednesdays (textiles) and Fridays (produce and more).
Aqua ParksAre located out of town at Long Beach: Aqualand, and at Ephesus Beach: Adaland and Aqua Fantasy. Kusadasi’s coolest hotspots offer thrilling rides and flumes, with a dolphinarium and white water rafting at Adaland.
Other activities:Jeep, quad bike and horse safaris, all kinds of water sports and boat trips are available from Kusadasi and its beaches.
